Turritella Fossil Information:
Turritella Fossil is also commonly called Turritella Agate. The name Turritella comes from the Latin word turritus meaning towered or turreted with ella added which indicates small or diminutive giving small tower referring to the small shell size.

Despite its commonly used name, the fossilized shells are usually from gastropods other than what biologists classify as a true Turritella. None-the-less, the fossilized shells with their surrounding sediment which, over a long time, turned into a beautiful rock formation. A fascinating combination results from this mix of rock and shell. Each piece is a one of a kind and several examples should be a part of every fine jewelry collection.

Colors:
Turritella Fossil rock occurs naturally in many colors including beige mixed with browns and shades of green and may have a hint of light lilac, too.

Care:
This piece should be cleaned using lukewarm, mild, soapy water and rinsed with the same temperature water. Avoid sudden changes of temperature and, as with all fine jewelry, remove before doing any type of physical work. As with diamonds, a topaz can be split into pieces with a hard knock, so use care with diamonds and topaz gemstones. Traditional gemstone procedure of storing in soft cloth away from other articles of jewelry hold true, too. Ultrasonic cleaners, steam cleaners and chemicals should never be used.
