  This sharp specimen was never opened, it was pulled from the original factory case in the early nineties and stashed aside for long-term investment, and it boasts stellar eye appeal.  The sealed case had been bumped on one corner, so like most of our pre-ordered copies, it has a ding to the bottom left corner, and a couple subtle tiny spine-stresses on the reverse, but no major defects.

This book is well known to fans and dealers alike as the PRE UNITY CLASSIC THAT INCLUDES THE TREMENDOUS SMITH COVER, AND THE VERY FIRST APPEARANCE IN THE MODERN ERA OF THESE CHARACTERS, HELPING KICK OFF THE FAMOUS VALIANT CRAZE OF THE EARLY NINETIES!  (This issue boasts classic interior art on the cardstock central insert portion by Barry Windsor-Smith, to boot!)

Anybody who was active in the hobby will tell you about how this upstart publisher, helmed by Jim Shooter, started its own new "universe", beginning with Magnus Robot Fighter, followed by Solar, which were both previously Gold Key heroes, of the silver/bronze era.  But then Valiant commenced introducing their own all-original heroes, starting with this auspicous series.  Which opened the doors for Harbinger, X-O Manowar, Shadowman, Archer and Armstrong, Bloodshot, Turok, and other great titles soon to follow.  The prices escalated rapidly, and those holding copies of such pre-Unity issues could not re-stock fast enough, as demand was literally through the roof.  The books had thought-provoking storytelling, coupled with great artwork, and a unique coloring method that gave them a painted feel, unlike the colors found in the big publishers.  Due to the fact that Valiant was a newcomer, many dealers didn't want to risk buying something from a small fledgling 'independent publisher' that had previously only put out a small handful of silly videogame-related comics such as Super Mario Brothers, and as a result those cautious dealers were left without any copies of the hottest books to hit the market since the eighties.  And because the print-runs were rather small, the books were not readily available from the major distributors after the instantaneous sell-outs, and they were promptly scarce and costly on the back-issue market. 

The rights to the Valiant superheroes have changed hands again, and there will be future incarnations of these great titles.  Valiant Entertainment, Inc., put a Hardcover book out, which included new material from JIM SHOOTER, and an all-new Valiant superhero.  They also have a hit with the new X-O Manowar and Harbinger titles, plus they've got other hit series as well.  Sony Pictures is slated to produce big-budget films based upon the epic Valiant Universe.  And more product is much anticipated by their devoted fans.  Which bodes very well for the original Valiant books, especially this one, which features the start of a couple of the major players of the Valiant universe. 

This great cover is a treat to behold when it's unblemished by such pesky detractors as creases and dog-ears.  It has a Jim Shooter story coupled with the timeless artwork of Barry Smith.  And the famous multi-hued Valiant colors, of course.  It doesn't get much better than this!   

This incredible original first-print comic-book WILL find a new home, as the Buy It Now price is low and there is NO RESERVE! 

This comic is a real find in unrestored VF or better shape, as many had major flaws, even fresh from the factory cases.  And of course many copies were read and re-read, time and time again.  However, this copy is super-clean and there aren't any severe signs of wear or aging, and it has precise printing registration.  And the paper quality is unbeatable!

 This is a beauty that you can show and display proudly, without worrying about damage or degradation of the nice supple clean snowy-white paper, thanks to the benefit of the brand-new bag and backer board.  Great cover colors; And the gloss is phenomenal, which must be seen in person to be appreciated.  If you are a discriminating collector, serious key modern-age investor, or just a devout Valiant collector and prefer to own high grade first printings, now is your chance.  It looks less appealing in the disappointing picture, with lots of glare and odd whitish areas from specks of lint on our scanner and fingerprints,  ~but in person the book looks spectacular and the super bright colors really leap out at you!
