- Fully Rigged Ship: Represents a sailor had been around Cape Horn, the rough, stormy waters around the southern tip of South America. A fully-rigged ship is one with three or more masts, with square sails fully deployed.
- Harpoon: Refers to a member of the fishing fleet.
- Hula Girl: Reflects a sailor stationed in Hawaii or sailing there.
Crossed Anchors: Sailors wearing the crossed anchors on the webbing between their thumb and index finger are identifying themselves as boatswain’s mates. These are the guys who maintain the deck and take care of smaller boat operations and damage control parties.
Nautical Star: The star is a symbol of a sailor always to be able to find his way home. The nautical star is a five-pointed star in dark and light shades designed to resemble a compass rose.
- Rope around the wrist/"Hold Fast" across the knuckles: Represents a sailor who is or was a deckhand.
- Swallow: Initially obtained when first setting to sea, now traditionally received for each increment of 5,000 miles sailed.
- Chicken and Pig: Usually tattooed on each foot (pig on the left, chicken on the right) to protect the sailor from drowning in a shipwreck. This is since chickens and pigs were said to survive wrecks because their wooden shipping containers kept them afloat.
- Shark: As a protection against being eaten if the sailor fell overboard.

1. Ensure
skin is completely DRY, CLEAN, and OIL FREE.
2. Use
small scissors to trim any excess around the design area of the tattoo if
necessary.
3. Peel
off the protective film.
4. Place
the tattoo face down on to the skin and press firmly, then wet the tattoo
thoroughly
with a dampened cotton pad/sponge/towel.
5. After
20-30 seconds, gently remove the backing paper.
6. Allow
to dry for 5-10 minutes.
Instructions to remove:
1. Using
a cotton pad, dab to saturate tattoo with household rubbing alcohol, or baby
oil
2. Wait
10-15 seconds, then gently rub away tattoo with a cotton ball
