Fucoidan is a polysachharide that is found in various types of brown algae. Orginally discovered in 1913 by a Swedish professor, Dr. Kylin, fucoidan is not a particular chemical or molecule, but rather a class of substances that contain sulfated fucose. The two most popular types of Fucoidan are F Fucoidan and U Fucoidan. F Fucoidan is primarily composed of sulfated Fucose while U Fucoidan contains about 20% glucuronic acid along with sulfated Fucose.

The health benefits associated with consumption of Fucoidan quite slowly discovered at first, with bits of research started in the 50's, and slowly increased throughout the decades. Throughout the 1990's and 2000's, we have seen a lot more research devoted to this incredible substance; furthering the prior research and demonstrating many other areas of the body that are benefitted with its consumption.
