This listing is for a Edmonton Bomb Unit (Canada) Enamel Lapel Badge - Mackenzie-Orr Collection IABTI

The badge has a width of 25mm. The pin and clasp is in good condition. 

The badge is from the estate of the late Brigadier 'Mac' Mackenzie-Orr GM OBE. He was awarded the George Medal after foiling an IRA plan to blow up the Belfast Telephone Exchange in May 1973 using a hijacked van with 200kg of explosives, nine mortar bombs and two independant timing and anti-handling devices. His award of the OBE was for outstanding liasion with the Royal Ulster Constabulary. 

As a result of his work in Northern Ireland he was on an IRA hit list and was subsequently posted to Australia where he transferred to the Australian Army. He retired from the Army in 1985 after which he served as International Director of the International Association of Bomb Technicians and Investigators (IABTI) from 2001 to 2003. He passed away in 2007. This badge is from his personal collection.
