Blue Lotus (Nymphaea Caerulea) water lily seeds;

Quantities available;

Germination:

  1. Place 3-4cm of loamy garden soil in the bottom of a waterproof container at least 12cm tall. Avoid soils with woody and organic contents or soil with added fertilisers. Add warm water to your container until it reaches about 2-3cm above the top of the soil. The soil may cloud the water so allow time for the soil to settle and then press it down very gently so that it is compacted.
  2. Sow the seeds on the surface of the compacted soil and ensure you space them evenly, at least 2-3cm apart, so that no seeds are touching one another. carefully sprinkle a very thin layer of white sand, no thicker than the thickness of the seeds so that the seeds are only just covered.
  3. Keep the container in a warm, sunny location until the seeds spout, this can take a few weeks up to a few months but be patient. When the seeds sprout they may look like common grass seedlings but very  shortly leaves will grow that will float on the surface and at this point you can carefully transplant them into separate containers, with deeper water, on their own so that they have more room to flourish.
  4. This is just one way to germinate these seeds and grow blue lotus so you may want to read, on-line, other methods that can also be used so that you use the best methods that suits you.
