This part is simple! Don't like the styles that are available at your Optometrist office? No problem, find the perfect pair for your liking and buy it online, you can always go back to your doctor to have the lenses fitted and put in!
What do the measurements listed mean?
The measurements you see are lens width, bridge, temple length. Or it might just be numbers listed like this 49-18-140 which in turn is the width of the lens, width of the bridge (nose piece) and length of the arms or temples.
What size is right for you?
What is most important for you is the first number, lens width. Generally the following ranges show sizing. 47 and under small. 48-51 Medium. 52+ Wide. These numbers can help you gauge what will be a good fit even without trying on the frames. You can also look on the left arm of your current glasses to see what size you currently wear.
What shape is right for me?
While there are certain shapes that might not be perfect for certain face shapes (round frames, round faces). The generalizations of the old face shape rules are obsolete in today's world. Its all about preference and what you like! If there is a certain style you are looking for and you want, go for it as most shapes work for pretty much anyone.
Are there any restrictions based on prescription?
No but there are a few recommendations.
If you have a bifocal or progressive prescription, it is always recommended to have a little bit of a deeper lens to ensure enough space for clear sight.
If you have a heavier prescription thicker and smaller frames will usually look the best!
