The PROTO 1000 series offered hobbyists high-quality locomotives and freight cars at an affordable
price. Each locomotive in the PROTO 1000 series features intricately molded details, laser-quality printing,
and prototypically correct paint schemes. The PROTO 1000 locomotive boasts a five-pole
skew wound armature motor with low amp draw for realistic, prototypical speeds.
In 1948 the Fairbanks-Morse Corporation conceived a new line of streamlined box cab diesel locomotives.
These were named "Consolidation" or "C-Line", to reflect the builder's effort to consolidate into a single
common standard A or B unit, a multiplicity of customer options without altering the basic design.
Many different models were in the line. Cab units with a B-B wheel arrangement were models CFA 16-4 and CFA 20-4 for freight service and model CPA-16-4 for passenger service. This PROTO 1000 model represents one of these locomotives.
In 1952 and 1953 twenty-three of these engines were built for the Canadian National by the Canadian Locomotive Company in Kingston, Ontario. These C-Liners were powered by an 8 cylinder, two-cycle,
opposed piston engine which generated 1600 horsepower. The trucks were symmetrically designed to enable the complete truck to be rotated 180 degrees under the locomotive to equalize wheel flange wear. C-Liners were often used in multiple unit lashups. The last C-Liners in service were retired by the Canadian Pacific in 1975.
The model features magnetic knuckle couplers, constant and directional lighting, dual machined brass flywheels, balanced 5-pole skew wound armature, heavy die-cast chassis, RP25 contour blackened metal wheels, and 8 wheel electrical pickup.
Model is finished in the CN black and white stripes with the wet noodle herald. Engine number is 9344.
