TEST BEFORE YOU CONNECT..........

BOLLARD WITH STANDARD UK STYLE CONNECTOR: Pop the Socket Tester into the 3 pin Adapter and then that in turn into Site Bollard. Switch on the supply and check the lights on the socket tester. 3 lights shows the supply to be correct and you can remove the 3 pin Adapter and use your Hook Up Cable as normal.  If you only see the first light lit, then the Live and Neutral lines in the bollard will have been wired up incorrectly for UK Equipment, so remove the 3 pin Adapter pop in the Polarity Reverse Adapter and then your Hook Up Cable. Obviously, if you want to check out your Hook Up Cable (maybe you rented one from the site, or borrowed a neighbour's before you left on your travels), repeat the test at the Caravan end of the Cable.

BOLLARD WITH GERMAN / AUSTRIAN STYLE CONNECTOR: The German / Austrian style connectors are 2-pin connectors with earth contacts running along the top and bottom. Symmetrical, with no keying and can be connected 180 degrees out of line. Pop the Schuko Adapter into the Bollard, then the 3 pin Adapter + Socket Tester into the Schuko Adapter and then turn on the supply. If you see 3 lights, the supply is correct, so remove the 3 pin Adapter (leaving the Schuko Adapter in place) and connect your Hook Up Cable to the Schuko Adapter. If you only see the first light lit, denoting Live and Neutral lines are reversed, un-plug the Schuko Adapter from the Bollard, rotate it 180 degrees, re-insert it into the Bollard and recheck the polarity. Everything should be correct by now so you can again remove the 3 pin Adapter and connect your Hook Up Cable to the Schuko Adapter.

BOLLARD WITH FRENCH / BELGIAN STYLE CONNECTOR: The French / Belgian style connectors are 3-pin connectors. Two round pins in the Plug and an Earth pin in the Socket. The Schuko Plug in our Adapters are classed as 'Dual Earth' Plugs and are designed to be used within BOTH the German and French Systems. So, pop the Schuko Adapter into the Bollard, the 3 pin Adapter + Socket Tester into the Schuko Adapter and check the lights. As before, if you see 3 lights, the supply is correct and you can remove the 3 pin Adapter and connect up your Hook Up Cable. If you only see the first light, indicating Live and Neutral are reversed, you will not be able to just rotate the Schuko Adapter (as you would with the German / Austrian system), but will have to use the Polarity Reverse Adapter in addition to the Schuko Adapter. In this case, you will probably want to insert the Polarity Reverse Adapter at the Caravan / Motor Home end of your hook-up cable in order to minimise the weight / strain on the adapters and connectors at the Bollard end.

DUAL EARTH EUROPEAN SCHUKO PLUG ADAPTER

Schuko Hook-Up Adapters are widely available that use Domestic / Household Schuko Plugs. These plugs are NOT intended for Outdoor Use and many have no protection against Water Ingress. Often, many of these Adapters use cable with individual wire cores of only 1.5mm sq or less and do not meet the requirements of BS 7671 Wiring Regulations for Caravan Hook-Up which calls for a minimum of 2.5mm sq conductor Hook-Up Cable.

GTech Adapters use connectors protected against water ingress to the standard IP44 (suitable for use in heavy rain) and capable of carrying currents up to 230V 16A, matching the supply capabilities of the bollard. They also use 2.5mm sq conductor 'Arctic Grade' cable, good for use well below freezing temperatures.

The Schuko Plug is a 'Dual Earth' design allowing it to be used in both French/Belgian and German/Austrian areas, and other countries that adopt these standards for electrical connection.

Connectors are of high quality Austrian manufacture, not cheap and flimsy 'far eastern' branded items.

The Socket is a 'Permaplug' brand, not a 'Far Eastern' one that barely meets the British Standard.

The socket adapter is more than just a 'Test Adapter' and, used in conjunction with your standard Hook Up Cable, will also allow you to use standard 230v 3 pin plugged tools and appliances around your Caravan / Motor Home should you ever need to.

Ruggedised Orange BS 1363/A 13A Fused 3-Pin Plug to BS EN 60309 Blue Plug.

'Permaplug' branded Plug and Austrian branded Socket.

1.5mm sq conductor size Arctic Grade Orange Cable.

Intended for use with your Standard Hook-Up Cable to power up your Caravan or Motor Home back at Home. Should be connected to an outlet fitted with RCD protection.
