Featured in this auction is a vintage flower frog or insert in the shape of a lily pad or lily leaf made by Fulper.  The piece is not marked but is identified in The Fulper Book by Hibel, Hibel and DeFalco as shape #424.  This later piece was most likely made in the 1930's when Fulper's matte glazes were somewhat thicker but still rich and colorful.  This sweet little flower frog is in excellent condition with only shallow glaze slivers or flakes just at the base rim, possibly due to the grinding process.  As a result, the base is not perfectly flat.  It has a slight wobble.  Otherwise, there are no chips, no cracks, no crazing and no repairs.  There are some glaze rubs and a bit of roughness at the leaf edges due to gentle use.  The frog is finished with a thick, matte-green crystalline underglaze with a lighter bluish-green overdrip that puddles in the crevices of the leaf and down to the base.  This piece is 2" tall, almost 4" wide at the leaf edge, and 2-1/2" wide at the base.  There are six stem holes (as was the standard for the Fulper lily pad flower frog design).  Check out all 12 photos!  This piece would be perfect for any American art pottery or Fulper collector.  Check out my other pottery listings!
