Vaulted 1914 Iron Cross 1st Class - Antique

Description

This is a fine quality example of one of the most famous of all German awards- the 1914 Iron Cross 1st Class.

The award features the W at the center, which was added in the late 1800s for Wilhelm I and was kept for the 1914 issue under Wilhelm II. Below this is the date 1914 with the crown at the top of the medal. The award has a pin back for pinning to clothing.

This particular version of the award has an antique finish and features a rare vaulted design, as can be seen in the pictures. This design was non-standard and such awards were private purchase items, sometimes preferred over Iron Crosses featuring the traditional design by recipients.
