Description: In the preparations for the Bicentennial of the US Declaration of Independence in 1976, a large number of exhibitions and events were planned for the city of Philadelphia.

The local chapter of the American Institute of Architects contributed an ambitious plan to stage seven temporary exhibitions at various locations throughout the city.  Each exhibition represented a different period and each location was built in that era. The exhibitions consisted of large panels of text and photographs and a free brochure containing information on the era, including a map with notable buildings of that epoch in the Center City area.

The whole exhibition was titled Philadelphia: a panorama of a civilization.  It was put together by George Thomas and Carl Doebley.

This is the brochure for the earliest period "Philadelphia: 1800-1840". The exhibit was held at the Greek Revival Second Bank of the United States at 4th and Chestnut Sts.

It's a trifold brochure, large image on the front, text and photos on four panels inside and a map and building list on the rear.

Size:  5.75" wide by 11" tall when folded.

Condition: Fine, no wear or damage.

Shipping weight is 0.5 lbs. Brochure will be shipped in a hard-backed mailer. We have four out of the six brochures available (the seventh show was apparently never staged).

We are always happy to combine shipping at actual cost.
