  • Agar-Agar is a natural vegetable gelatin counterpart derived from seaweed / algae (polysaccharide agarose).  When prepared It forms a semi-translucent gel that can be used in culinary applications to make jellies, puddings & custards, etc. It is also useful in microbiology as the base medium for culturing bacteria and germs in petri dishes.  Nutrients can be added to the agar as appropriate for the specific type of microorganisms being cultured. 
  • Agar can be made into gel by adding 15 grams of agar powder to 1 liter of cold water, stir and bring the water to a boil either in a microwave or stovetop.  Once it has boiled stir again and allow it to cool and become a gel.
