WW2 Luftwaffe M40 Officers Side Cap

Description

WW2 Luftwaffe M40 Officers Side Cap

The Schiffchen (Little Ship) cap was first introduced in 1933 as a Fliegermutze (flyers cap). Although it was originally issued and called a Fleigermutze, it was issued to all paratroopers

The Luftwaffe Schiffchen is most commonly referred to as the M40 field cap, or side cap. The M40 cap was a popular piece of headwear worn by the Luftwaffe before it was replaced by the M43 Side Cap. The M40 was worn with the field and service dress uniform and then in 1940 it was also allowed to be worn with the walking out uniform.

The design of the Schiffchen allowed the cap to be tucked easily away when a helmet was required. It was worn behind the lines and carried into the front lines where it was worn until a helmet was needed.

This WW2 Luftwaffe M40 Officers Side Cap, with silver officers piping, is a cracking little addition to any re-enactors Luftwaffe uniform.
