Paul Sawyier's Scene at Elkhorn Creek, professionally framed, this nature scene is set in antique gold wood frame which measures approximately 17½ x 25”. The watercolor image on paper is surrounded by a 2” mat which shows approximately 12½ “ x 19¾ “ of the scene. Paul Sawyier,
1865-1917, enjoyed fishing and spent considerable time on the Elkhorn Creek, to the east of Frankfort, Kentucky. Though the true colors don’t show through due to variation in flash adjustment while making photos for this listing, Sawyier applied a sharp focus on the creek’s reflective surface with concern for color of the distant hills in varied hues while emphasizing the blue of the horizon in keeping with the atmospheric perspective. This art work has been in my home for 30+ years and was previously in the home of my father who was on the Board of Trustees for University of Kentucky.

As indicated in the photos, the artwork (frame, glass, mat and image) is in good condition with wear due to use and age*. On the back of the frame, the protective cover has slight indentation as shown in photo #4*. We would never attempt to remove or re-frame fragile items such as this. Though, a buyer may wish to re-frame the art, it is beautiful as is.

This is one of four artworks in my Paul Sawyier collection, all with same type frame, mat and glass; all available for purchase. I also have available for sale a signed and autographed book, The Art of Paul Sawyier by Arthur F. Jones, which is inscribed "With my best wishes to Gil Kingsbury, Arthur F. Jones”; copyright @ 1976 by The University Press of Kentucky. The item you are purchasing is for “Scene at Elkhorn Creek” only. Please contact me, as seller, if you are interested in the other works.
