There are 10 modes: 5 with 3 bulbs flashing and 5 with all 5 bulbs flashing. 

The lowest power option (3 bulbs flashing) lasts for 500 hrs before batteries need to be changed. 

Batteries are inserted into the base of the post. Batteries are not included.
