This is a Gorgeous Antique German 812 Silver Shell Shaped Snuff Box / Travel Soap Box.
I believe this is more likely a soap box vs. a snuff box due to how the box closes.
I was taught years ago that a true snuff box has a lip on the lid, so when closed the snuff will stay fresh.
Seeing how this box has a latch and not a lip that tucks inside I'm leaning more towards the soap box.
However this box is a great size and could be used as a pill container or for coins or stamps.... etc.
The only markings / stamps on this box are on the inside, where the latch hooks in. It's been pointed out to me that this box was probably from Gmund Germany with the .Unicorn head hallmark .
It has a 13 which would be the silver content of 812 in Germany.
And what looks like a makers mark but its worn too much for me to make out what it is.
This item is approximately 2 7/16" Long by 1 7/8" Wide by 7/8" Tall, and weighs approximately 28.8 /grams.
This is a true antique item it does have a dent on the shell side.
