Karakul hat is also known as Jinnah Cap, named after the founder of Pakistan, Muhammad Ali Jinnah. 

The Jinnah cap is part of the national dress of Pakistan along with the Shalwar Kameez. Many early and current Pakistani politicians and heads of state still wear the Jinnah cap.

In Nepal it is called as Dhaka topi. The Jinnah Cap is particularly popular among the scholars and the elder generation of Balochistan, Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, Azad Kashmir and India.
