An original copperplate, engraved map of ILE-DE-FRANCE (Gouvernement de l'Isle de France) by Jan Jansson. Published the Mercator-Jansson atlas c1633. The map has wide margins and measures 500x600mm. The printed area is 370x495mm and the map is unframed and unmounted, with some hand colour. Apart from a scrolled title cartouche the map is largely devoid of decoration. It shows in detail the rivers, woodlands, towns and villages of the inner Paris Basin in the early 17th century. Prominent rivers include the Seine, Oise and Marne. In addition to Paris, important towns include Senlis, Pontoise, Compeigne and Beauvais. shows. The map is in very good condition.
