ANTENNA USERS:

It will receive, tune and record all digital channels (not analog channels if there are still any in your area) via antenna (OTA or over the air) and use it with the newer digital flat screen TV's.  You would have all the features listed in this auction for this machine.     NOTE:  It will NOT work with older analog TV’s without the use of a separate converter box.   If you have an older analog TV, you will not be able to record any channel while watching another.  Also you will have the same restrictions as cable users that have a cable box (see below).

CABLE  USERS:

It can receive, tune and record any non-encrypted, non-scrambled, non-SDV, clear-QAM (like modern TV tuners) channel via cable.  You must know what kind of cable you have!!!

1.     If you have the cable coax out of the wall running directly into your TV then you have either analog and/or clear-QAM cable.  All the clear-QAM channels can be tuned & then have all the available features of this DVR available to you.

2.     If you currently have a cable box of any kind from your cable company, you would have to call the technical service department of your cable provider and ask them which of the channels in your package are either analog channels or clear QAM, non-encrypted, non-scrambled channels.  If they tell you all your channels are clear-QAM , ask them if they are “Switched Digital Video (SDV)” This is not the same as clear QAM. 

3.     If you have SDV, or encrypted (scrambled) channels, your Magnavox becomes a slave to your cable box for these channels.  You will lose some of the features of this machine for these channels
        A.  You would not be able to record one channel while watching another.
        B.  You would not be able to tune channels with the remote of this machine; you would have to use the tuner on the cable box.
        C.  You would not be recording in 16:9 formats.
        D. You would have to use composite (red, white, yellow) or S-Video cables out of your cable box into the Magnavox to record.  You would not be using the tuner in the Magnavox to tune channels.
        E.  This means everything would be recorded in an analog format. When you wanted to record something, your cable box would have to be on & tuned to the one channel you wanted to record.
        F.   If the show you wanted to record is copy-protected you will need a filter box between the STB and this DVR to remove the copy-protection.
        G.  There is a difference between "encrypted" and "copy-protected" and they are separate issues.
        H.  All of the other features listed for this machine below would be available.

 SATELLITE USERS:

It can receive and record (not tune) any non-copy-protection programs via satellite.  To know what you have in your satellite package please call the technical service department of your satellite provider and ask them which of the channels in your package have copy-protected programs. This material this machine will be not be able to record.  As with cable, all satellite users would have this machine as a slave to your satellite receiver.   You will lose some of the features of this machine for all satellite channels:
1.     You would not be able to record one channel while watching another.
2.     You would not be able to tune channels with the remote of this machine; you would have to use the tuner on the satellite receiver.
3.     You would not be recording in 16:9 formats
4.     You would have to use composite (red, white, yellow) or S-Video cables out of your satellite receiver into the Magnavox to record.  This means every recording would be recorded in an analog format.
5.     When you wanted to record something, your satellite receiver would have to be on and tuned to the one channel you wanted to record.
