ROLLING STONE

Issue no. 95 November 11, 1971

Nice condition – no labels

Excellent 4th anniversary issue of Rolling Stone, with

the historic first-ever publication of part one of

Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas penned by the fabulous

Hunter Thompson (writing as ‘Raoul Duke’).

With plenty of eyepopping illustrations by Ralph Steadman,

who also signed the amazing cover art for this issue.

Other main pieces include part II of Tom Nolan’s much-acclaimed

book-length article The Beach Boys: A California Saga,

as well as stories on Sly Stone, Leon Russell, Federico Fellini,

French rocker Johnny Hallyday and more.

Over twenty albums are reviewed, including new

releases from Jefferson Airplane, Grateful Dead, and The Band.

Please note that this is the rare UK edition of the magazine,

and not the American edition.

The two editions came out simultaneously and had

identical content, but different advertising.

The issue runs to 48 oversized pages and its back

cover is a wonderful promotional ad for

Alice Cooper’s first-ever show in the UK, at the

Rainbow Theatre in London on November 7th 1971.

This is the complete issue, fully intact, nothing missing.

It has been carefully stored, and is in

truly nice good condition for a 47-year old tabloid-size paper.

There are some nicks and marks at the edges,

and one minor tear inside. The pages are

starting to yellow with age, but they are all clean, clear

and truly a pleasure to read.

The photos above are scans of the actual item on offer.

Will be carefully shipped with a light fold in the middle, the way it

looked on newstands when it first appeared.

Super item, hard to find in such nice condition.

NOT HAND-SIGNED - PLEASE NOTE!

In the first paragraph of the description above,

I wrote that Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas

had 'illustrations by Ralph Steadman, who also signed

the amazing cover art for this issue.'

Poor choice of words on my part, because of course,

this doesn't mean that this is an autographed item.

I just meant that the issue's cover art is by Ralph Steadman.

It's not hand-signed, so please forgive me if you were misled.

(I would have simply revised the description, but eBay

doesn't allow changes once a bid has been made.)
