I am big cyclist and traveller, and came across Bambikes while passing through Manilla by going on a tour with them.  The bamboo bike  I rode was very comfortable.  

I carried one back from the Philippines and made it into my own stunning road bike, and have subsequently converted two mountain bikes which are in use on my AirBnB experience (Unseen London by Bicycle).  My intention had been to use these as well, however, my customers prefer thicker tyres (hence using the mountain bikes) and I use town style bikes now.  

The bike i use on the road is stunning, people want to talk to me about it the whole time and it is just a work of art (i actually kept it on my wall for a long time).  

These bikes are cool, strong, take all standard cycle components, and socially responsible. 

I don't find the frame is much lighter - but there is a bit of natural give in the frame to give you just a little cushion as you cycle. 

There are other bamboo bike manufactures, but these are the best looking and well constructed - with fibre joins with bonding resign (like fibre glass / carbon fibre) to join rather than ugly metal joins/plugs or bindings.  The craftsmanship is stunning. 

I cannot recommend these highly enough.
