An original copperplate, engraved map of YORKSHIRE (Ducatus Eboracensis) by Jan Jansson. First published in Jansson's Atlas Novus in 1646, this map is the 1646 edition (verso text in French with print register Ooooo). The map is unframed, unmounted, and hand coloured. The printed area is approximately 485x375mm and the map has good margins. This is a beautifully engraved and decorative map with an ornate scale; title cartouche with figures representing the industrial and agricultural economies of the county; sailing ships; and a sea monster in the North Sea. The map includes a wealth of geographical details including rivers, relief, towns, villages, wapentakes and estates. The overall condition of the map is very good. The centrefold verso has been strengthened.
