SONY MDS-JB920 MINIDISC PLAYER RECORDER
Great QS Quality Standard level (the second highest spec level Sony make) machine. Wide Bitstream and Current Pulse DAC. Heavily built, all metal case, many facilities. Loads of options and extra inputs and outputs.
Fascia very good, with just some slight marking on display window. Top of fascia is scratched. Some scratches on top of and two faint cup ring marks.
Good Working Order- all fascia buttons and facilities.
This is a very effective machine. Digital sources can be connected via either of two digital IN optical sockets or coaxial digital input. As well as producing faultless copies from external digital sources such as CD, minidisc, DAT, DCC, digital radio/ TV decoder etc., you can also make MDs from analogue sources such as mixer, cassette, turntable, VCR or analogue tuner. Records and plays in both stereo and mono. recording length can be doubled in mono. Reads TOC, but does not play long play discs.
If you have an integrated amplifier you simply use the analogue tape loop IN/OUT socketry and connect accordingly to the MD analogue in/outputs. If you are working with line level sources you can however skip the amplifier and put them straight into the machine's analogue inputs. The MD's output then goes to the amplifier, or you can just use headphones.
Makes excellent copies of vinyl, especially if you have a quality turntable- simply connect the MD to the amp's tape loop. If you use a turntable with a separate phono preamplifier, the output from the phono amp can go straight into the Sony, or via your amplifier's line level inputs.
Recording is dead simple and intuitive. Select digital or analogue source, press record, start the source, just like using a tape deck.
Tracks can be named with fascia buttons and separated and also edited after recording. Also has pitch control facility (needs remote control which is not supplied, though).
It's also worth pointing out that replay of MDs either recorded on the machine or ordinary commercial MDs is really good: Muscular, detailed, musical presentation, good layering of complex music, good channel separation.
