An original antique map of COUNTY DURHAM (Dunelmensis Episcopatus..) by Saxton & Kip. First published in Camden's Britannia in 1607, this map is the 3rd (and final) edition of 1637, with plate number 51 and without verso text. The map is unframed, mounted (museum quality mount board) and uncoloured (as published) with a printed area of 335x280mm. It features a scrolled title cartouche, mileage scale, compass rose and a large sailing ship in the North Sea. One of the earliest printed maps of Durham, the map shows in detail the county's rivers (Tees, Wear, Tyne, Skerne etc.), hills, towns, villages, and estates. The map has good margins, is a clean and clear impression and is in excellent condition. The map will be sold out-of-mount to international buyers.
