An original antique map of LINCOLNSHIRE (Lincolnia comitatus ubi olim insederunt Coritani) by Saxton and Kip. First published in 1607, this is the 3rd state of the map (blank verso and with plate number - 26). Engraved by William Kip it appeared in Camden's description of Lincolnshire in Britannia. The map is framed  (520x470mm) and mounted with later hand colour.  The printed area measures 340x295mm. Saxton & Kip's map is the earliest printed map of Lincolnshire per se. It includes a scrolled title cartouche, elaborate mileage scale and compass rose. The map shows most settlements in the county; the three divisions of Holland, Kesteven and Lindsey; rivers, hills and estates. Prominent physical features are The Wash, the Humber estuary and the River Trent. This is an impressive copy in excellent condition NB the map will be sold out-of-frame to international buyers.
