Problems tuning your vintage Steinberger bass? Has your vintage Steinberger bass been sitting in a closet for months/years because you can’t tune it anymore? BGStainless.com has a solution to the problem. At BGStainless.com we love the Steinberger Bass and have owned and played them since the early 1980’s. A common problem we have experienced is the failure of the tuning jaws. The jaw begins to spread apart and in some cases breaks off leaving the bass unplayable. Through the years’ jaws were made from several materials such as brass, aluminum, and cast white metal. Most of these types of metal will eventually fail in one way or another which led us to use stainless steel for the jaws. Our initial intent was to satisfy our needs so we could play our Steinberger's again. We had 5 sets of jaws made from stainless steel and we were thrilled with the results. We decided to offer the remaining sets to other players with the same problems we had experienced. We were amazed how fast the sets went and the absolute joy Steinberger players expressed being able to play their instruments again. So to make a long story short, in the last 6 years we have sold Stainless Steel jaws to Steinberger players here in the USA and in more than 22 countries around the globe and every reply was an overwhelming thanks for bringing their Steinberger's back to life.
Our jaws are proudly Made In The USA and precision engineered in high grade stainless steel. The Stainless Steel Jaws will not stretch or break under normal usage. BGStainless jaws are Guaranteed for Life.
In addition to the Vintage Stainless Steel bass jaw we have in limited quantities a Stainless Steel Wide bass jaw and a Stainless Steel Modified DB-Tuner bass jaw. The Wide Jaw and the Modified DB-Tuner jaws are available for purchase on our website only. The Stainless Steel Modified DB-Tuner jaw was a special request from a customer who sent us his original defective E String jaw from a Version 1.0 DB Tuner Bridge. The E String jaw on a DB Tuner Bridge is a Vintage Jaw with a slight modification done to the top of the jaw. We had limited quantity fabricated in stainless steel and were able to help some of our customers with this specially modified jaw.
Our Vintage jaws are compatible with the Steinberger Narrow 5 string bass and our Stainless Steel Wide jaw is compatible with the Steinberger Wide 5 string bass. The larger Wide jaw is also found on certain XQ Series basses, later model Steinbergers made in Nashville, certain Spirit basses and Hohner Jack basses with Steinberger bridge.

The replacement threaded rods for the Vintage and Modified DB-Tuner jaws are proprietary to BGStainless.com and they are the same thread count and thread pitch as the original threaded rod which gives the Steinberger its incredible 40:1 tuning ratio (our jaws are compatible with the original threaded rods).

We have yet to run into any incompatibility issues with our jaws from Brooklyn to Nashville era Steinberger basses.
We do offer single jaws however we suggest replacing all four or five jaws at the same time because of the added positive effects. Vintage and Modified DB-Tuner jaws come with a threaded rod, nylon washer and installation instructions. Currently we do not offer the 4 mm threaded rod for the Wide Jaw. “I have replaced all the jaws in the bridge assembly of my Steinberger XL., and I have installed a set of LaBella flatwound strings. There is a substantial tonal improvement, and that should become more pronounced as they settle in. The sustain has never been this good, and that has to be the jaws. It is true what they say about the sustain. The degree to which the old jaws were degrading the tone is a matter for the philosophers. I believe they hurt the sound of my instrument. I would recommend that any Steinberger bass owner whose instrument has the original jaws not wait for the inevitable failure but instead take preventative action and upgrade with your stainless steel jaws now.
