How to Use:

  • There are plenty of videos on YouTube demonstrating the correct use of this Whetstone.
  • Submerge the Whetstone in water for about five to ten minutes to soak. When there are no more little air bubbles appearing, the stone has absorbed the optimum amount of water. NEVER USE DRY.
  • Continue to apply water whilst sharpening. These stones are designed create a workable slurry on the surface and require a good soaking in water for best results. The water combines with small particles released from the stone to form an abrasive substance, which allows the sharpening to take place.
  • Try to keep the slurry paste on the stone for as long as possible. Do not wash the slurry away, as this is what sharpens the knives.
  • Place the Whetstone in the supplied slip-resistant base for stability.
  • Start by using the #1000 Grit coarser side of the stone that is chocolate brown in colour.
  • Move the blade back and forth (away from and towards the body) at an angle of 15 - 20° across the entire stone.
  • Use light pressure.
  • Start at the tip of the blade. Pull the blade over the stone through to the middle and down to the base of the blade. After a short time, a fine edge or burr will have developed.
  • Turn the knife around and work on the other side of the blade until the burr has been removed.
  • Repeat this process several times as necessary.
  • Important: Always maintain the same angle.
  • Now repeat this process on the finer #6000 Grit side of the stone.
  • To finish, pull the blade twice at an angle to the cutting edge to remove the last burrs. Your knife should now be really sharp.
  • Rinse off the Whetstone and clean off the grinding residue.
  • Rinse the knives carefully in hot water.

Naguras are particularly helpful for polishing, so a good approach is to choose a Nagura that is the same grit or higher than your finest water stone. KUROBARA Tsubaki Camellia Oil Knife / Tool Rust Prevention Corrosion Oil - 100ml

Pure Camellia Oil (Tsubaki Oil or Tea Seed Oil) protects steel knives from rust, staining, spotting and tarnish. Can be used on all kitchen knives including high carbon, stainless-steel and even wooden handles. Remember ‘stainless’ does not mean that the knife cannot corrode. The stainless-ness of knives can vary, but all steel can rust or discolour if misused or if improperly cared for.  A great thing about Camellia oil is that it doesn't turn rancid or gummy like most vegetable oils and that's a big plus. Use a light coat and this bottle will last a long time. It won't prevent the natural tarnish or darkening of high carbon steel knives but that's OK since its primary function is to protect against rust. It also has workshop applications and can be used for the likes of planer blades and chisels. Can also be used in salons for keeping scissors in top notch cutting condition.

Features:

  • Natural light oil extracted from camellia seeds.
  • It is used to preserve and protect the blades from rusting.
  • It can be used on knives, gardening and woodworking tools.
  • Works best when is applied after a tool is washed clean and dried.
  • It will also help preserve wooden handles.
  • The 100ml comes in a squeeze container.
  • Made in Japan
