From front flap: "The scandal that gave splendid grist to the mills of contemporary gossip writers and cartoonists was not unnaturally buried as deeply as possible by Victorian heirs, and it has been left to the authoress, herself a descendant of the General, to unfold the dramatic and sensational Gunning story in its true perspective."
