This 13 cent vintage postage stamps honors the 50th Anniversary of Lindberg’s infamous solo flight.
They were issued on May 20, 1977 at Garden City (Roosevelt Field), NY and were designed by Robert E. Cunningham.
The stamp shows the “Spirit of St. Louis” flying over the Atlantic Ocean with the sun setting behind.
The top corner of the stamp reads, in blue, “USA 13c” and in very small black ink “50th Anniversary Solo Transatlantic Flight”.
These stamps commemorate Charles Lindberg’s solo transatlantic flight of May 20, 1927 from the dirt runway at Roosevelt Field, Garden City, Long Island, NY.
He crossed the coast of France on the eve of 5/21/1927 and touched down at Le Bourget Field at 10:22 PM.
Lindberg was an instant hero and became known as “The Lone Eagle.” His feat, being the first person to fly solo – nonstop across the Atlantic - inspired interest in aviation.
He was awarded the Congressional Medal of Honor and first-ever Distinguished Flying Cross by the US government.
This issue of stamps was printed on a 7-color Andreotti gravure press.

This set also includes a 50th Anniversary Talking Pictures 13 cent stamp 
This stamp commemorates the 50th anniversary of talking pictures, was first available on October 6, 1977.
Walter Einsel designed the image of a movie projector and phonograph.
Until the late 1920's, motion pictures were soundless except for the musical accompaniment provided by theatre owners in the form of live musicians.
While they were hugely popular, 'movies' remained a secondary form of entertainment, largely due to their lack of sound. 

Also includes a Photography USA 15 cent stamp which commemorates photography.
They were issued on June 26, 1978 at Las Vegas, Nevada and were designed by Bradbury Thompson.
The stamp holds a picture of a vintage camera with various items used in photography.
Also pictured is a lens, color filters, reference book, adapter ring, and flashbulb.
A black and brown camera is pictured on a white background with the other props like the blue, yellow and red filters & clear glass bulbs, surrounding it. “Photography USA 15c” is written in black underneath.
The stamp measures 1 1/2 inches tall x 1 1/4 inches wide (3.8cm x 3.2cm).

Also includes a George Cohan 15 cent Stamp
George M. Cohan dominated the American theater at the beginning of the 20th century.
He was an actor, composer, dancer, director, playwright, producer, and singer.
Cohan began in show business as a child, performing in his family's vaudeville act.
By the age of 17, he was managing the act and writing vaudeville sketches and songs.
From his first full-length play in 1901, The Governor's Son, came two of his most enduring songs: "The Yankee Doodle Boy" and "Give My Regards to Broadway".
Strongly patriotic, two of his songs were World War I favorites: "You're a Grand Old Flag" and "Over There".
