Pre-Columbian Chancay Double Drum Figural Whistling Vessel

Here is an extraordinary double drum whistling vessel, each drum mounted on a round pedestal base.

A long tapered spout surmounts one drum and a costumed, painted figure stands atop the

second drum, both connected by an arched strap handle. This impressive museum-grade vessel

is profusely ornamented with elaborately painted — and totally different — cream-on-brown

 designs on front and back sides. The sonorous whistle is still fully functional and calcified root marks

 are clearly discernible; eloquent testimony to prolonged interment.
