An original antique map of DERBYSHIRE by Emanuel Bowen. Published 1777 in Bowen's scarce 'Royal Atlas'. The publishers’ inscription reads: “Printed for Robt. Sayer & John Bennett… John Bowles… and Carrington Bowles”. The map is unmounted in a Hogarth frame (470x550mm). This is a finely detailed map showing towns, villages, rivers, hills, roads, bridges, hundreds, churches etc. All available spaces filled with annotations of the Earls of Derby and places of interest in the county i.e. Derby, Buxton, Bakewell, Pool's Hole, Castleton, Chatsworth, Melbourne etc. The map has old outline hand colour and apart from one small marginal (upper left c1cm) which does not impinge on the printed area is in excellent condition.
