  • We have cared for a colony of more than 25 cats and rescued kitties for 16+ years.  It is common these days for people to simply let their unwanted cats outside thinking they will care for themselves.  This is not true! Abandoned house cats left in the elements have not developed the survival skills necessary to live outside.  Sometimes a cat develops unwanted behaviors because they weren't spayed or neutered so they let their cat out and guess what happens?  The female becomes pregnant and the male locates every fertile female in the neighborhood! Then, more kittens. Some of the cats in this colony were once someone's beloved pet who was betrayed and left outside.  These special kitties were fortunate to form this colony yet every once in awhile another new cat comes to visit, then stays.  It is very expensive feeding and caring for so many so many cats.
  • We also spend a lot of time building shelters and homes for them with large plastic boxes, duct tape, insulation board and strawDuring this past harsh winter many of their houses were destroyed from several feet of heavy snow and fallen branches from surrounding trees.  There was freezing rain then floods. We were fortunate that no kitties were harmed yet we need to rebuild before another snow.  There was a lot of damage to their houses, some had to be thrown away.
  • Veterinary care and supplies are costly and add up over time. Many developed eye infections during the Spring rains.
  • The kitties are fed both moist canned and dry food every day.  Vitamins, Brewer's Yeast, and Lysine are added to their food to protect and support their immune system.
  • We also neuter and spay (TNR) the cats for their health and well being. Even though we receive a slight discount, Veterinarian costs are astronomical. TNR (Trap-Neuter-Return) involves spaying, neutering, vaccinating, rabies vaccine, microchipping, office appointment, and the recovery process.Veterinary care is expensive so you can only imagine paying for more than 25 kitties or more!  During prolonged heavy rains, some cats develop eye infections or upper respiratory infections that require antibiotics and/or terramycin (eye ointment). One tube alone costs up to $38.00.  Sometimes kittens are born as you can see from the photos, they are adorable and require extra care as their health is tentative in the early weeks living outside in the elements. After the mama cat cares for them for 8 weeks we try to find homes for them.  It is better for them to find a furrrever home at a young age rather than live outside so we find homes for the adoptable kitties after they are checked again by the Veterinarian.  Kitten formula alone cost's between $6.99-$8.99 per can!!
  • I know it's tough for a lot of people out there economically. The kitties appreciate any assistance at all.  All sales (and sales of my other items..Check out my other items!) go for the care of cats and kittens.  We purchase cat food, brewer's yeast, vitamins, and other cat supplies for them right here on eBay!  We also receive "eBay bucks" when items are purchased here so the more we receive here, the more we can purchase for the kitties through eBay!
Freya's Cat Rescue is a registered 501(c)(3) non-profit, no-kill, all volunteer cat rescue. Our primary focus is to care for feral cat colonies of strays, abandoned, and homeless cats and kittens. We offer education about feral cat care and encourage new cat owners the importance of spaying/neutering pets for their health and to alleviate unwanted behaviors that may result in their future abandonment. Sanctuary is offered to many in need.
