Original antique map of CAMBRIDGESHIRE (Cambridge comitatus) by Saxton & Kip. First published in Camden's Britannia in 1607, this map is the 1637 edition (no verso text) and with plate number (21). The map has a Hogarth-style frame (440x410mm) and is mounted (printed area 320x285mm) and attractively hand coloured. The map features a scrolled title cartouche, and a mileage scale surmounted by map dividers. Drawn at a large scale, the maps shows great detail, which includes towns (Cambridge, Ely and Royston) and villages in the county; rivers (Nene, Welland, Great Ouse, Cam), hills, meres, estates and bridges.  Important settlements named in adjacent counties are: Huntingdon, Peterborough, Downham Market, Wisbech and Newmarket). The map, which is not stuck down, is slightly but uniformly toned and in very good condition. NB the map will be sold out-of-frame and mount to international buyers.
