An impressive and good sized copper engraved bird's eye view of the Princenhof, Amsterdam, looking overhead into the Courtyard of the Princes.
A crisp, dark impression. Fine condition other than some minor staining as seen, free of repairs or restoration. Centre fold as issued (very faint).
Approx. 13.5" x 10" (340mm x 260mm) image area only, with good margins all round.
Printed on robust hand laid paper, blank verso.
Please also see close up image provided. Caspar Commelin (1636 - 1693) was a well known printer, bookseller and publisher in late 17th century Amsterdam. He was also a noted historian of his native city and is best known today for his beautifully illustrated Beschryvinge van Amsterdam or Description of Amsterdam. Most of the fine copper engraved views are by Petrus Schenk and are characterised by the inclusion of busy street and waterway scenes around the grand buildings of the city.
