Details

All dining table/desk legs come with a predrilled top plate with legs of width 700mm and above also having a tab welded to the top plate as seen in some photos.

75x25mm legs have a 75x8mm top plate

100x50mm legs have a 100x10mm top plate

Steel choice

You have a choice of steel type:-  a minimalist/flatter profile which are the 75x8mm and the 100x10mm steel types or a wider profile of the 75x25mm or 100x50mm steel.   All types are strong however some steel types are only suitable / recommended for certain uses.

- 75x8mm is best for smaller desks, hall tables, coffee table / benches.

- 100x10mm is best for desks, hall tables, dining tables upto 850mm leg width.

- 75x25mm is suitable for all desks / tables of all widths.  Is also good for kitchen bench height / bar height tables eg above 850mm leg height or wider dining tables over 850mm leg width.

- 100x50mm is suitable for all desks / tables of all widths including kitchen bench height / bar height tables.  eg above 850mm leg height or wider dining tables over 850mm leg width. Best for dining tables and especially for large dining tables over 850mm leg width.

* Also consider the proportions of the legs with the top eg. a thick timber top may be best suited to thicker legs like the 100x50mm steel type.

Sizing

Legs 400mm in height are best suited to coffee table, bench seat. 700mm high for dining table / desk. 900mm and 950mm for bar height, kitchen bench heights. In choosing the width of legs normally legs are narrower than the tops themselves eg 800mm wide top would have a 700mm wide leg however this is upto your preference.

Powdercoated (eg painted/coloured legs):  A commerical grade metal finish (Dulux) including an undercoat primer against rust.  There is a large range of colours available - contact me if you have a request.

Raw finish:   These legs are provided in a raw state without any coating. Choose this finish if you want the industrial look or plan to paint yourself.

FAQ

We need to talk about cheap imported Chinese table legs

If you are going to the effort to make your own piece for furniture then why would you select the cheapest legs, made in the cheapest way?

Please don't compare the legs I make and sell, with the cheap imported legs as you won't be comparing like for like.

Just because it says "Australian stock" or "Australian seller / Australian ABN" does not mean that they are Australian made. It simply means someone has bought them from China and are reselling them.

Common problems with cheap imported Chinese legs ;-

- Steel thickness / gauge. Quite often wall thickness of box section is very thin which means they are light weight , crimp at the screw hole and 'blow out' the holes over time. I use 2.5mm wall thickness which is super strong.

- Powdercoating. Its common for the steel of imported furniture to be top coated only without the priming being done, therefore the paint flakes, the steel is exposed and rusts. All Sunny Coast Hairpin Legs are primed against rust then top coat powdercoated giving a lasting commercial grade finish. Dulux powders are used for all powdercoating.

- Quality. Their legs are made as cheaply and quickly as possible - mass produced. I don't keep stock of hoop legs, all are made to order with attention to detail and quality using Australian steel and local quality Powdercoating.

There are also plenty of other reasons to buy Australian made products but you're probably aware of this.

Why powdercoating?

- No rust / no paint chipping (unless excessively knocked) / brilliant professional finish

- Superior look, hardness and durability protecting your furniture piece much better than standard paint / spray paint could.

- The legs are gritblasted, primed against rust then powdercoated ensuring the best finish and longest lasting coating available.

- As used for commercial metal finishing

- We use Dulux quality powdercoat available in a large array of colours

Raw finish?

These legs are provided in raw state without coating for you to keep the industrial look or paint yourself. You may need to clean the legs when you get them using a rag or better still, steel wool. To keep their raw, industrial look (without the steel rusting) you need to coat them using a clear coat Rust Guard or Penetrol type product available at the hardware.  Alternatively can use a coloured spray paint, again I suggest a spray paint that is rust preventing and contains a primer. Obviously this finish would be second to powdercoating.

Can I get a custom size or colour?

Yes, contact me.
