INDIGENOUS GUATEMALAN MAYA DANCE MASK
Here is a genuine elaborately decorated wood mask representing “El Toro" ,
an important character in a number of traditional Maya dances and events
including the “Dance of the Animals,” and “Dance of the Hunt”.
This museum-quality mask -- exclusive of horns and bell -- is 7” (17.7 cm) high x 5.25” (13.3 cm) wide x 2.5” (6.3 cm) deep,
decorated with black, silver and red paint. The elaborately embossed antique brass bell is 2.5" (6.3 cm) x 1.75" (4.4cm).
This fine old mask has been in the seller’s personal collection since 1977, is
in excellent condition and represents an ideal acquisition for the discerning collector, investor, curator or dealer.
This remarkable example of indigenous Maya folk art is ethnographically-significant as well as a highly-collectible artwork; NOT a contemporary tourist reproduction. This mask will be shipped with a registered Certificate of Authenticity signed by R.T. Rogers, certified American Society of Appraisers Ethnographic Art specialist (ret.)
