British Leather Jerkin

Reproduction British WW2 Leather Jerkin.

Finding the heavy animal skins and pelts that were experimented with during the winter of 1915 unsuitable for the modern battlefield, in 1916 British troops were instead issued with the leather jerkin. Designed to protect against the cold and elements, without inhibiting freedom of movement, the jerkin proved popular with officers and the ranks alike.

Such was the popularity and practicality of the leather jerkin it continued to be issued to British and Commonwealth troops. It was virtually unchanged to the WW1 design, with four buttons fastening up the middle, thick wool inside and soft leather protecting from the wearer from the elements while outdoors. The jerkin remained a common sight labourers and manual workers in the decades following the war.

An excellent reproduction of the hard-wearing British Leather Jerkin.
