We get the question frequently about what the listed thermostat temperature means. I'll try to address it here:

Thermostats have a “rated” temperature (such as 160F, 170F, or 180F) This is the temperature the thermostat will start to open, releasing heated coolant from the engine into the radiator. The thermostat will fully open once the coolant gets another ten or fifteen degrees warmer.



Many fitments. See list above & below. This setup is a great choice for summer time use and racing applications.

Many factory thermostats are rated at 190-195°so do your research and decide if this 160 degree low temperature thermostat is compatible with your setup.

We may also have this thermostat available in additional temperatures including 160, 170, 180 & 195 degree depending on your needs. A new thermostat is a great choice to ensure your engine continues to run at optimum temperature range.



This thermostat is rated at 160 degrees and will fit applications that take the listed cross-reference part numbers, although those part numbers may be rated at different temperatures. Please use this thermostat kit "only" if you know you want a 160 degree thermostat. We also carry 195, 180 & 170 degree thermostat kits that may be a better choice for your application. If you are unsure, please contact me for help.

Certain model Fords may trip a check engine light if the temperature is not what the computer is expecting or if it does not reach a certain operating temperature within a certain amount of time. Generally this can happen if the thermostat is stuck open or if it opens at a too-low temperature (usually when going bad). Generally the 160 degree is what many use in very hot areas of the country, during the hot summer months or during extended high speed conditions. Also can be very helpful if stuck in stop and go traffic.  You individual  needs may be different. Check with your service manual if unsure.

We also carry this setup in a 170, 180° & 195 kits for those who want to replace with a factory rated temperature or something closer to factory thermostat. In cooler climates or in the winter months a 180 - 195° may be preferred. Look in out other listings for that kit. See details below. This is a high quality thermostat made by MotoRad. Even has the small vent to help the trapped air in your cooling system to purge out.
