Black Cohosh

For centuries, the roots of the North American black cohosh plant have been used for various ailments. Black cohosh is now a popular remedy for the symptoms of menopause. This has been especially true since the risks of a standard treatment for menopause, hormone therapy, were publicized more than a decade ago.

Black cohosh is most often used to control the symptoms of menopause, such as:

Headaches
Hot flashes
Mood changes
Sleep problems
Heart palpitations
Night sweats
Vaginal dryness

Women sometimes take it to regulate periods, ease PMS symptoms, and induce labor. Black cohosh has also been used to relieve arthritis pain and help lower blood pressure.

Dong Quai

Also known as "female ginseng" in the Orient, Dong Quai is often referred to as the "Empress of Herbs". As such, it has been used for centuries in traditional medicine to treat a wide range of female complaints including; absent periods, cramps, menopausal symptoms, and infertility.

This potent women's herb has the ability to regulate estrogen levels - whether they're too high or too low - strengthening the uterus, improving uterine tone and regulating the menstrual cycle.

Dong Quai is also a blood tonic in Traditional Chinese Medicine, and has been shown to improve red blood cell counts which is helpful after menstruation has ended as the blood is replenished more rapidly. It increases blood flow to the reproductive system, reducing congestion and pain

Licorice

Licorice root is used to soothe gastrointestinal problems. In cases of food poisoning, stomach ulcers, and heartburn, licorice root extract can speed the repair of stomach lining and restore balance. This is due to the anti-inflammatory and immune-boosting properties of glycyrrhizic acid.

One study found that glycyrrhizic acid can suppress the toxic bacteria H. pylori, and can prevent it from growing in the gut. There is also research that’s shown people who have peptic ulcer disease, heartburn, or gastritis had improved symptoms when taking Licorice.

Over time, stress can leave the adrenal gland exhausted by constantly producing adrenaline and cortisol. Licorice supplements can give the adrenal gland some relief. Licorice root extract can stimulate the adrenal gland, which promotes a healthy level of cortisol(anti stress hormone) in the body.

Sage

Sage has an extensive history as a medicinal herb. It was used by the ancient Egyptians to improve fertility. In the first century CE, Dioscorides, a Greek physician, pharmacologist and botanist (now known as the father of pharmacology), reported that sage can help stop wounds from bleeding, help disinfect sores and promote healing of ulcers. He also used sage juice to treat coughs and hoarseness.

The health benefits of sage are attributed to flavonoids, such as apigenin, luteolin and diosmetin,7 which are known for their antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties.8 Sage can also provide your body with rosmarinic acid, a polyphenolic compound with unlimited health potential.

Due to the popularity of "sage the savior" as a home remedy, it has been extensively studied and shown to offer the following benefits:

Assists in lowering cholesterol and blood glucose.

A 2013 study published in Complementary Therapies in Medicine showed that participants given sage leaf extract had lower fasting glucose, HbA1c, total cholesterol, triglyceride and LDL ("bad" cholesterol) levels, but higher HDL (good cholesterol) after three months of treatment

Alleviates menopausal symptoms.

In a 2011 study, researchers S. Bommer, P. Klein and A. Suter reported that taking fresh sage leaf tablets significantly decreased hot flush symptoms among menopausal women by 50 percent after just four weeks. After eight weeks, the hot flushes were reduced by 64 percent.
