Classics, also known as ‘Dr Eliot’s Five Foot Shelf’, is an anthology
comprising of classic works from world literature, compiled and edited by Harvard
University president Charles W. Eliot and first published in 1909.
Eliot also
compiled the 20 volume ‘Shelf of Fiction’. Ultimately, these 72 volumes cover
every major literary figure, philosophy, folklore, belief and historical
subject through the 20th century and are without doubt the most
comprehensive and well-researched anthology of all time. A quick look through
