Information And Care Advice for your Sterling Silver jewellery

A piercing can take from 6 weeks to 6 months to heal, (up to 1 year in the case of cartilage piercings).

NEVER!!!! use Sterling Silver in a fresh piercing or partially healed piercing as bodily fluids will react with the Silver and cause tarnishing and skin irritation.

Silver piercing jewellery should be considered “special occasion jewellery” and only worn in fully healed, well established piercings for a short duration.

925 Sterling Silver is made up of 92.5% silver and 7.5% other metals that cause irritation to the skin. If not cared for properly the other metals in the product can oxidise and cause tarnishing. In order to avoid any discolouration of your item please observe the following.

Do not wear your jewellery at the gym (sweat and other bodily fluids contain Sulphur and will react when coming into contact with Silver turning it to Silver Sulphide, causing the Silver to turn a shiny black/blue colour). Also do not wear Silver for showering or sleeping as moisture in the air (including humid climates) or on the skin can cause tarnishing. Also try to avoid long term contact with make up products as the chemical compounds in these products can also cause tarnishing, if your jewellery does become tarnished or discoloured you can use a mix of hot water and baking soda to remove the tarnish.

Line a heat proof dish with aluminium foil, place the jewellery in the foil in the dish, sprinkle on the baking soda until well covered, pour the hot water over to cover the jewellery, add more baking soda if needed, also use a clean toothbrush (make sure all toothpaste has been washed off the toothbrush) to move the jewellery around and help clean the jewellery, the silver jewellery should only need a minute or two soaking in the solution to remove the tarnish, make sure you rinse the jewellery thoroughly in plain water and place on kitchen roll to dry, when the silver is dry use a soft cloth to polish the jewellery, you can use a silver polish cloth, in some cases these cloths have an anti tarnish property that helps keep your jewellery tarnish free.

Store your silver jewellery in an air tight container or Ziplock bag when not in use to keep it moisture free.
