The Cleveland National Forest is the southern-most of the national forests in California. Its 567,000 acres are located in Orange, Riverside, and San Diego Counties, at elevations ranging from 460 to 6,271 feet. A warm, dry Mediterranean climate prevails over the Cleveland National Forest--hot in the summer, mild in the winter. Most of the forest vegetation is chaparral, predominantly coastal sage, chamise, manzanita, and ceanothus. National Forest Atlases are full color atlases, containing 8.5 ? 11 inch topographic quadrangle maps at 1 inch to the mile scale and are available for many of the forests in California.
