"Jeux d'Eau, Dieu fluvial riant de l'eau qui chatouille, Pour Piano. Paris, E. Demets, Editeur, 2 Rue de Louvois (2e. Arr.).... Imp. C.G. Roder, Paris."

A piece for solo piano by Maurice Ravel. With the (printed) inscription "A mon cher maitre, Gabriel Faure." Composed in 1901, Ravel was at the time a student of Faure.

This music sheet is published by E. Demets, who were the first to publish the piece. There is no date, but this must be a very early edition, if not a first edition. The adverts at the back list, amongst others, a few compositions by Ravel, the latest of which is Miroirs, which was composed in 1904 - 1905.

The music sheet was owned by Sidney Twemlow, with his name inscribed in ink above a small portrait, presumably of  Ravel. Twemlow was a pianist of some standing (a search online reveals, for example, that he accompanied George Parker in a recital on the Home Service [radio] at 22.00 on Friday 13th October, 1944), and he was the County Music Advisor for Norfolk between 1946 - 1976.

Size: the sheet measures 35.5cms x 27cms.
Condition: Covers taped on the spine. A little foxed, with loss around the edges. A little foxing and stained inside, but generally acceptable. Some fingerings in pencil. Previous owner's name inscription (Sidney Twemlow and small portrait photo (Ravel?) added on 2nd (blank) page.   Please study the photographs
