This item was purchased for a few dollars from a Canadian merchant who had no particular interest in it.  His speculation on its origins make no sense to me and are not consistent with the item after I evaluated it.

I believe you are possibly looking at the studio's design mock-up or prototype for the USA laserdisc jacket.  We know this process is not random.  Well-paid artists presumably had to come up with such mock-ups, to various degrees, on various media, for various decision makers.

I have no way to authenticate this theory, or disprove it.
