An original antique engraved map of NORTHUMBERLAND by Van Langeren, first published in 1643 in A Direction for the English Traveller. This example, published in 1757, includes a list of towns and villages in the county (below the map - obscured by mount - and on verso). The is a matrix of distances between the principal towns in the county (the earliest example in antique map history) and a thumbnail map of Northumberland (revised and enlarged in 1643). It is mounted, hand coloured and has a printed area of 110x40mm. The map is in very good condition.
