Acetone is a solvent for a wide variety of applications, the most common use  is for the removal of nail varnish, false nails etc. 

It can also be used for Used for thinning polyester resin, cleaning tools used with it, and dissolving two-part epoxies and superglue before they harden. As a heavy-duty degreaser, it is useful in the preparation of metal, wood and other surfaces prior to painting.

Note - Acetone has a specific gravity of 0.785. This means it is lighter than water. 

So 1 Litre of acetone would weigh 785g on the kitchen scales, NOT 1000g  like water.
