Why get the 55 SF sail kit instead of the 45? The larger sail will help you go faster in light and moderate winds (under 12 mph wind speed). In stronger winds (above 12 mph) there is no advantage, as the kayak will hit top speed with the 45 SF sail. But most days on most protected waters winds are under 12 mph, so the 55 gives you a speed advantage most of the time.
Very portable: We have travelled with this model sailboat in checked baggage to faraway places and had tons of fun when we got there sailing around lakes and bays. When folded the sail kit is only 4 feet long and the whole thing fits in a carry bag that resembles a golf club bag (included).
This same sail kit will also fit Bolt, Sea Eagle and Saturn inflatable kayaks listed at the end of this description. This listing is for the sail kit with 55 SF 2-tone blue nylon sail. This sail kit performs well, including tacking upwind well. Inflatable stabilizer pontoons from Hobie on outrigger arms are included to reduce the risk of capsizing.
This sail kit straps onto your kayak and requires no modification of the kayak itself. The passenger capacity of the kayak is not reduced by adding the sail kit. You still have just as much room in the cockpit.

Portability and easy assembly: Everything folds or comes apart so that no part is more than 4 feet long and it all will fit into a 12-inch x 12-inch x 48-inch carry bag (included). Sail kit weighs about 40 lbs. Once you have done it a few times, you can set up the sail kit on your kayak in about 20 minutes.. There are a few initial assembly tasks (approx 60 min.) that you do just once, when you first get your sail kit, and don't have to repeat. You kit will come with complete instructions and straps suitable for your kayak. Capability: This kit has everything you need to transform any of the listed kayaks into a sailboat with ability to sail downwind, across the wind and tack upwind. It has leeboards and steering. Don't be fooled by others who sell a "sail kit' and all you get is a sail and mast without all the other components you need to hold the mast up, steer and sail across the wind and tack upwind. Why 2 steering oars? You could get by with just one. The main reason for 2 is convenience, so you can steer with either hand without having to move the steering oar from one side to the other. The steering oar you are not using can be ignored by resting its blade on the stern of the kayak. You can also propel the kayak short distances by using the two oars at the same time in a "push-forward" motion. Rowing with the steering oars is not real efficient for propulsion but can be convenient if you need to move a few feet closer to a dock or get yourself out of a sheltered little cove with no wind.

Sail : we will send the 2-tone blue sail as shown in one of the pictures. There be no logo or large lettering on the sail. Pirate sail, plain white, or multicolor bright sail with red, yellow, blue available upon request as no-cost substitution.
