Essays on Men and Manners, by William Shenstone.
Published 1787, London for Harrison & Co.
80 pages. Text in English. Engraved frontispiece plus one other full page engraved plate.

Period 18th century tree calf leather binding, smooth spine, gilt bands & sun burst compartment decorations, gilt title lettering on contrasting red leather labels, marbled end papers, three fine copper engraved plates.

Book was hand made over 225 years ago and is physically old. It shows mostly gentle signs of handling and time.

Fascinating contents, entertaining to read today, with commentary on manners, self and social conduct, rules of proper behavior, observations on mankind and organized society, etc

Binding gently age worn, slight scuffing along joints, leather remains supple, book has fine patina, mellow age appearance, nice antiquarian book.

Text block paper is clean, fresh, book remains internally well preserved, tight, sound, trivial staining or soiling, any flaws of a minor type unworthy of specific mention.

Book displays a very pleasing and age patina unique to 18th century books, the small age flaws easy to overlook or forgive.
