The Atocha was found off Key West, Florida in 1985 by Mel Fisher. The Spanish Fleet left Havana, Cuba and wrecked near Marques Key and Dry Tortugas which are 70 miles west of Key West. 500 million in treasure was discovered. The Fleet was composed of 28 ships. The Atocha was a guard galleon and provided protection to smaller Merchant ships. This booklet is the story and excavation of a 1622 Spanish ship. 60 page booklet in color.
